Fitness Friday: Favorite Apps

Hey adventurers! Today's post is something different than usual and completely not what this blog has been about. But I'm thinking of starting a Fitness Friday, every Friday I'll make a post that is fitness related. Today is about apps. Smartphone apps. I have the Samsung Galaxy S3, don't know why that's important but I figure to just throw that out there. My two favorite fitness apps are RunKeeper, and NTC(Nike Training Club).

RunKeeper: This app is my most used app that I have used on my phone. It uses the GPS in your phone to track the pace, route, elevation etc. I run 2-3 miles a day and every 5 minutes it tells you how long you've been out, and the average pace. So when I'm listening to my music I get a pick me up every 5 minutes telling me how well I'm doing. When I first started this app it was a little weird at first but now I look forward to how fast or slow I'm going and how long I've been out. Running for me is my safe place I guess, I don't think about anything else but running. Not the rude customer at work, or the guy who cut me off on the road. Nothing, just running. I guess Running relaxes me--but I digress.

At the end of your activity it gives you an overview of the activity that you just did. How long it was, what the average pace was. After the voice tells you, you can actually flip through different screens which are a breakdown by the minute of the pace that you were going, there is a map of the route that you went and the average pace separated by the miles. This app also tracks the calories burned, but I don't like to use apps or anything for calories. I don't workout to burn calories. I know that sounds weird to me but I don't track calories or anything.

RunKeeper also has training plans that you can follow, say if you wanted to get to run a half marathon it has a schedule that you would follow. It says that it is 64 workouts over 112 days. I personally don't follow any of the training plans. But I hear that they are very well worth it.

RunKeeper isn't just about running though, it has a lot of activities it can track, bicycling, walking, hiking, and snowboarding just to name a few. Best of all it's FREE!

NTC or Nike Training Club: I use this app about every other day. After I run I usually do a 15-30 minute workout using this app. This app is amazing. On the home page it tells you how many minutes you've done and your next reward-which isn't really anything it's just like a button it gives you and it says good job and such. Then there is get workout where you can choose your workout. There are four options: Get Lean- High interval cardio drills to slim down, Get Toned- Light weights and intervals to add definition, Get strong- increased weights and reps to build strength, and Get Focused- 15 minute workout s to target specific areas. Then when you chose one there is beginner, intermediate, and advanced options.

Once you start your workout, if you don't know the drill you can actually watch a video and it will show you the workout that it is telling you to do. There is no lagging once so ever that I have experienced. The narrator will tell you when to switch legs/sides and occasionally it'll say motivating things as well. NTC has vivid pictures, videos, how to's, you can purchase nike gear through the app.

NTC is also free which is a giant plus.

If you're just beginning to workout I would highly recommend these apps to get you started. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask below!

This is not a sponsored post. I genuinely love these two apps and hope you will too!
