Do not aim to be a skinny you, aim to be the best you.

Why would you want to be just skinny? When you are losing weight your goal should be to be healthy. Healthy is not the same as skinny. Before someone jumps down my throat here, if you are losing weight you would not be naturally skinny. Naturally skinny people should--in my opinion--also lift weights, gain muscle mass, and eat healthy. If you're naturally skinny, good for you! I was you at one point. Up until the age of 19, I weighed 125-130 pounds on my 5'10'' frame. I had that nice thigh gap that everyone wanted and frankly, I don't want to go back. Now I weigh 160 pounds, no thigh gap, and I want to be healthier. Hell, if I get healthy and I don't lose any weight, or get my thigh gap back, great! I just want to have healthy habits.

So why should you join me in my goal to become healthy instead of skinny? Well, why not? Why would you want to do all this work and not have anything to show for it--except the weight loss. Healthy also doesn't mean big and bulky muscles. Everyone has their own version of healthy. My healthy may not be healthy for you. Everyone's body is different. The fact that people even say " I want to be skinny " makes me mad because you shouldn't. Skinny isn't always healthy. Root for your health, not just being skinny.

Maybe I should tell you guys my definition of healthy for myself. Reading this post back it may be a little confusing for someone. My vision of healthy for myself is to have a good amount of muscle on my body. I want to tone my body. I'm not overweight. I do not have a goal weight frankly because I am not overweight. I want to be healthier and if I lose weight in the process, well that's okay, and if I gain weight cool. Being healthy is eating better and introducing workouts into your daily routine.

Bottom line here, is aim to be the best you, that you can be. Not just a skinny you.

What's your version of healthy? Is it quitting smoking? (good for you if it is, cause that is a 100% healthy decision) Is it laying back on the alcohol? Working out three days a week? What? Tell meeee! I want to knoooowww! :)

Puzzling

Today I want to talk about puzzles. That's right puzzles. First lets talk about how when the word is italicized it looks like the word shouldn't exist. Second, how come people don't do these more often? I saw a post on Facebook this morning, about a brand that makes puzzles with no edges and 5 extra pieces--it had a caption of "Satan, is that you?"or something along those lines-- and that made me want to get a puzzle. So I headed on down to my local Kmart this morning--it's like 3 minutes from my house-- and it took me 10 minutes to decide on a puzzle, there was a lot of choices. It was 8.99, and I feel like I got my 8.99 out of it just today. At the point in the picture I had worked on it about 4 hours. Not very much work done is there? That's because you gotta separate all the edge pieces from the non-edge pieces, then I separated by color scheme and that takes a long time. It's a 1000 piece puzzle, but it takes a long time to get through all those pieces, plus I missed some of the edge pieces during the first sort and so I had to sort through them again gosh darnit. All in all I spent about 6 hours on the puzzle today, and it only looks a tad bit different than in the picture above.

I'm not going to lie, trying to find the pieces that go together gets overwhelming after a while; but it's a little exciting each time I find one that matches. I was listening to music, the whole time so I wasn't just sitting there in silence--that would be boring. The main goal of it was to get off the couch and away from the TV. I haven't started work yet and each day besides my daily workout, cleaning the house, and going outside to play with the dogs, I basically just sit on the couch and watch TV. It's annoying, really. I wish that my neighborhood would be more walk friendly. There is basically no sidewalks, and a million cars parked on both sides of the road. So your basically walking in the road if a car were to choose to be going down the road and I don't like the idea of driving somewhere to take a walk.

I got off on a little tangent there. Back to the puzzle. It was really entertaining, I feel like it could be something I could do with my husband if he wanted. I'm exited to finish it--pray there are no missing pieces-- glue it together and then hang it on the wall. The image is just beautiful and I love when I've seen puzzles as art in other places it's nifty. Besides, I get art for 8.99. Who can beat that? I guess I could if I got a cheaper puzzle--were you thinking that too?

So anyway, puzzles. Do them. :D

When was the last time you did a puzzle? Do you enjoy them? or think they're boring?

Motivational Wednesday!

The way I see it, is a majority of people who fail with their fitness goal or dream is because they do too much, too fast. They decide one day to change in a good way. They do that by drastically changing something/everything.  Make small changes. If you drink 4 sodas a day aim for 2, if you drink large amounts of alcohol try changing it from 7 days a week to 4 days a week to start. Then as the weeks go on, lower the intake of whatever it is. If you stop all of it in one day the body does not react well as its used to having it and therefore it has an opposite effect of what you would like.
Earning a healthy body is not done overnight therefore your choices should not be put into action overnight. Take it slow. Even if it doesn't seem like much, it helps you and do not give up! Every little thing helps. Hell, getting up and walking around your living room every commercial break helps and that's a small thing to do.
Fitness does not require drastic changes overnight. It requires changes over months and months. As your body shows changes over the months so should your habits.
Keep that in mind and I hope you stick to your goal.

A look back on 2013; blogging, moving, and deployment

Okay, so 2013 has come and gone in a blur. Over the course of these 365 days a lot has gone on in my life, I've moved 3 times, driven across the country twice, gone through a deployment and much more. I figure what's a better place to look back on my year than here? I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did living it.

Blogging:

2013 was an extremely horrible year for me with my blog. It got a new name from 'The Journey of my Adventure' to 'Alaina Kayy', which is almost the only positive thing that has happened. I gained about 10 followers this entire year which is just terrible. But I had to discover the time and the passion for it again and moving around and dealing with everything just came first. This blog also started as a makeup only blog when it started and it has since moved to a fitness and lifestyle blog as well because Makeup isn't my only passion. 2014 is going to be a better year for this blog, it can't get any worse than this year with all the broken promises and false come backs.

Pico De Gallo

Hey guys! I'm feeling a little under the weather today. :( No worries though because I'm here to share with you a super easy Pico de Gallo recipe. Anytime I go to a restaurant and I can get Pico on anything, I'm down. I love it, it's so fresh with just the right amount of spice and so easy!

Ingredients:
Three small tomatoes
One Jalapeno
Half a medium sized red onion
A handful of cilantro
One clove of garlic
Water (if you prefer it wetter about 2 tbsp is enough for me)
Salt and Pepper to taste

Directions:

Dice onion and tomato into small pieces. You can leaves out the seeds of the tomato if you prefer, I half did that in this picture. Cut Jalapeno in half length wise and core out the seeds. Then cut into small pieces. Roughly chop cilantro and mince the garlic.
Combine all ingredients into a medium sized container, add water, and put in the fridge for about an hour.

Best served chilled.

See! So easy. All it requires is lots of chopping, not cooking or anything! One of my favorite foods. :)

December 17th;

I finally got internet hooked up in my new place! I'm super excited about it because now I can use my desktop again and I just love this thing. Today my workout was from POPSUGAR Fitness from my workout binder. I had never done this workout before and I'm glad that I chose to do this one after not working out and being very active for the last few weeks.

Birch Aquarium- San Diego, CA

Hey guys! Since I just moved here, I wanted to explore the area and see some of the must see's of San Diego. Of course the famous ones are the San Diego Zoo and Sea world; but the admission prices (Zoo-$44 each and Sea World-$88 each) are just out of our price range right now with all the moving expenses so I found this Aquarium online and decided hey! it's kind of like a zoo right?--no? okay then...-- Admission was a much better $17 a person and on a Tuesday morning (we went at 10am) it was pretty much empty.

The Aquarium portion of the place in itself was pretty small. It was a long u shaped hallway; but it had a lot of tanks inside with a lot of different fish/coral/organisms. Then there was another portion of the Aquarium which was a learning portion, it had a tide pool where you could touch the sea life that you could reach, also lots of interactive displays where you had to physically do something to see how it worked--ex. spinning a wheel to get two different type of light bulbs to light up. Overall it was nice. It took us about an hour to get through the entire thing.

I'm going to do another blog posts on just the Jellyfish portion because it was pretty cool. I'll link to that one here.

I had a lot of fun there seeing all the different types of fish and even got to see some small sharks and stingrays which were pretty cool--the pictures didn't turn out so well-- so I enjoyed myself!

I hope you enjoyed this post even though it's nowhere near fitness, or beauty. but hey, it's my life right now. Hope y'all enjoy!

Motivation Wednesday #3

Hey! I'm happily settled into the hotel now and I saw this on tumblr, and this is my motivation for this Wednesday! I like this one because it's not just motivation for working out or staying fit. It's motivation for life in general. The last one is incredibly important and that's the one that means the most. In fact, that's the reason for it being my MW--motivation Wednesday-- because it's that important. Just try your best and believe me, your best is good enough.

Your best will get better in time. Just keep trying your best and you will achieve your goal.

Sorry this is so late! I've been stressing out trying to find a house and such here. :) Follow me on Twitter and Instagram to keep up on my daily life!

Motivation Wednesday #2

This one is special to me because it was what got me outside everyday when I lived in Hawaii. I printed it and posted it on the wall right next to my bed. It's true every time you push your body it is worth it. Every line in this I cannot disagree with. All you gotta do is just keep at it. It's not easy nor is it a quick fix. It requires dedication and motivation. But do it for you. Nobody else.

See you guys next time!!

Tips for running during cold weather;

So I went out and I got some cold weather gear today and I thought that maybe some people would be just as unmotivated to get out in the weather as I was. So I put together a list of things that I find important when you go out this season. They are not in a particular order.

Motivation Wednesday #1

So I saw this on Pinterest today; and I really thought about it. This is about 95% true. Thinking that you can't do it or won't do it is all in your head. But the 5% is knowing when pushing your body any further is going to do more harm than good. You shouldn't just jump up one day and run 5 miles, take it slow, but push yourself. You know your limits, you'll know when something isn't right. But don't give up! You'll get stronger! Don't listen to your head saying you can't do it!

Also getting yourself off that couch or chair or bed; is mental. You won't do it if you're telling yourself you can just do it in an hour or tomorrow, that hour won't ever come. Get up and do something now!

Did you actually get up and do something?

Cause I did! :)

Hope you enjoyed today!

November 15th.

Today with the help of Cassey Ho--Blogilates-- I did Obliques, Abs, and Arms(links to the videos will be at the end of this post.) I had a hard time getting a clear picture because my arms were shaking so bad haha. She was using 5 pound weights and I was using 10 pounders. I should of got my 5 pound weights but I was already into it so I just did it with my 10's.

Missing my babies

Have you ever run a busy household and then suddenly it all stop? That's how I feel right now,  and have been feeling for the passed few months. I saw the original post on instagram--which was a repost-- and all the sudden it hit me. I miss my babies. I have three pets. Have any of you lived with three pets? I bet some of you have. I have two large dogs---Rogue, a seven year old black lab mix and Le'a, a 2 year old hound mix-- and a cat-- Ratchet, she's two--. I was living where something is always going on.

Okay. Let me throw a disclaimer in here, I don't have kids, but yea I understand that it would be more difficult with kids. But right now, these are my kids.

I've been without them since July 16th, when we drove to Virginia. We left them with family so they are being taking care of, but I miss them. Missing that greeting at the front door, or --I never thought I'd say this-- but the rushing home after work to make sure the dogs go out to do their business.  I miss not being able to do whatever I wanted because I got dogs at home who wouldn't last 9+ hours without me. I just miss them. Their energy and being an everlasting animal lover, its super hard to live without animals.

And, they're super cute.

Ever feel like that?

My Running Shoes: Mizuno Wave Precision 13.

All images used in this blog post are from Google, they're not mine.

After my horrible experience with the Nike Free's, I decided I was not going to choose Nike again. Read about my experience here. The shoes I decided on were the Mizuno Wave Precision 13.

Airplane Headaches;

Some back story first; my husband is in the military and with that means moving a lot. The past few weeks have been very stressful because of moving: making sure that the dogs are well enough to fly, making sure someone is there to pick them up, shipping both cars, getting all of our stuff packed. After everything was packed then I had to clean the house and make sure it passed inspection. SO we finally get to the airport and get on the plane. I had my CSI: NY on watched about 6 episodes--side note, the battery life on this MacBook is just amazing. It had 42% left after watching 6 episodes!-- I started getting this dull headache, thought nothing of it--headaches happen I actually thought that it was my headphones because I had never worn them that long before. Well when we started to descend it felt like my head was about to explode, so much pressure had built up all I could do was just cry. Couldn't stop myself, the tears were just rolling down my face, my head was piercing pain with random shots of more pain. The pain was almost unbearable and it's not like you can just ask the pilot to slow down with the descent--ha...

Just a heads up!

I'm going to be moving! Yes, MOVING away from Hawaii. My husband is in the Navy so it requires us to move around a lot. I'm going to be bringing makeup with me--of course-- but I won't have my entire collection--well maybe, I haven't completely decided yet- I'm moving into a little apartment, won't have any of my pets or any of our furniture for a few months and that puts me in this position. I haven't exactly been that regular with this blog, but I don't want to give it up. I really like blogging and everything. Life just gets in the way sometimes. I feel like I'm letting myself down. I'm not working right now because we're transitioning so I'll have time on my hands to put this together. But it's a lifestyle blog, not just a makeup blog. I'm going to add some photos of our little apartment that we get and such like that. I don't know if it'll be interesting but this is also a place to document things for me.

Hopefully you will like joining me on this adventure.
